A strong school curriculum on the subject of Civic Education is an essential condition to an informed and active civic participation. Here’s why, we joined forces with Street Law, DXC Technology and UnitedLex, and launched a project called ‘Lawyers assisting Civic Education Teachers’. This project aims at supporting the work of civic education teachers in local schools by including lawyers as their assistants in class when teaching topics that focus on legal issues.

In 2023, we extended the initiative with the help of the Civic Scouts at Work project. 

Lawyers assisting civic education teachers (2023-2024)

Activities
During the new academic year, a second group from the legal department of DXC Technology underwent training in civic education. The lawyers collaborated with our teaching methodology specialists to convey their knowledge in a modern and interactive manner in the classroom. Alongside participants from the first edition, the lawyers from the second group delivered two open lessons to students in the XI and XII grades at seven schools nationwide. Some of the topics covered in these lessons included European identity, citizenship and opportunities, rights and responsibilities, contract law, ethnic communities, and minority policies.

Lawyers assisting civic education teachers (2020-2023)

Activities
Lawyers from DXC Technology taught civic education classes in various schools across Bulgaria. As part of the project, a handbook with lesson plans on legal topics from the civic education curriculum was developed to support the collaboration between lawyers and teachers in the classrooms. Some of the topics covered include the rule of law, contract law, separation of powers, justice systems, etc.
