The EU has been going through a series of crises – from the Eurozone crisis and Brexit to controversy around migration, from external threats to the rise of Eurosceptic and nationalistic parties in some Member States. In response, the EU has embarked on an extensive process to reform itself. At a workshop in Sofia on 18 April 2018, organized by Sofia Platform, participants discussed their expectations of this EU reform process, and the role of climate and energy policies in it. About 50 participants attended the high-level event, coming from government, parliament, European embassies, civil society and business. Amongst others Bulgaria’s deputy minister of environment and energy joint the discussion. The event was organized in cooperation with Ecologic Institute (Germany) and GlobalFocus Center (Romania) and is part of a Pan-European discussion series in a number of EU countries, financed by the European Climate Initiative (EUKI). EUKI is a project financing instrument by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). A summary of the workshop is available here.
