Nearly four decades after the end of the regime, Bulgaria still has no permanent place where this history can be explored in depth, made accessible and understood through human experience.

We are creating FACADE to provide such a place.

FACADE will bring historical facts together with personal stories. The museum will address repression and restrictions, but also everyday life. It will explore how people adapted, the compromises they made, and the ways they sought to preserve their dignity. It will also tell the stories of both small and large acts of resistance.

FACADE will be the first museum of communist Bulgaria – a home of memory for a past that should not be forgotten.

Because freedom is not inherited. It is understood when we know the stories of those who lost it, defended it or paid a high price for it. Created by the Sofia Platform Foundation and supported by people, companies and organizations, the museum will be a place of memory, knowledge and civic responsibility.
