10.11 Festival - an open conversation with the past
Between November 2 and 14, Sofia will become the scene of a different kind of conversation with the past.
Festival 10.11 is an invitation to remember, to ask questions, and to better understand how the traces of communism are still around us—in what we see and in what is no longer there.
There will be tours, exhibitions, workshops, music, and many conversations with people who, in their own way, are trying to tell the story of the recent past.

November 9 (Sunday), Goethe Institute:
- 4:00 p.m. – Public discussion "Dialogue beyond taboos: how the memory of communism finds its narrative in words and places" with Daniela Koleva, Ulrich Melert, Emine Sadk and Zeki Emin
- 5:30 p.m. – Cocktail reception and informal discussion
- Belene: Bold Stories from the First Person (NBU, November 6–12)
- Assimilation and Resistance of Muslim Women (Sofia City Library, November 7–14)
- Historical tours by tram and on foot (November 2, 8, and 9):
- “Figures of Resistance,” “The Imposition of the Regime,” “In the Footsteps of Freedom”
Workshops and discussions (November 10, Goethe Institute and NBU):
- History of the recent past in new media
- How to work with eyewitnesses: from personal memory to historical memory
- How do we deal with the traumas of communism?
- Public discussion “Memory Behind the Showcase: Challenges Facing Museums of the Recent Past” with Stefan Wolle, Zachary Karabashliev, Matthias Irlinger, Dervish Hizarchi, and others
