Comic Book "Communism V.2.0"
In Bulgaria we often hear the expression "it was better in Bai-Tosho's time" from young people who don't know the reality of the period. For them, and for all those who want to learn more, the Sofia Platform Foundation and the comic artists from Maina Town have created the special comic book "Communism V.2.0".
The book tells the story of a fictional Bulgaria, where communism comes again - a second version of the already experienced totalitarian regime. The graphic stories demonstrate life under Soviet dictatorship and tell of contemporary characters shocked by the new reality in which the Party became the main and unavoidable factor.
The main objective of the comic book is to present facts, concepts and people from Bulgaria's communist past in accessible language, thus awakening young people's interest in the period. The comic book can be a tool for non-traditional teaching in history and civic education classes.
The online version of the comic book can be viewed here (in English).
The project is supported by the America for Bulgaria Foundation. The America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) is an independent, nonpartisan, and nonpolitical American grant-making foundation working in partnership with Bulgarians to strengthen the country’s private sector and related democratic institutions. ABF builds on the success of the Bulgarian-American Enterprise Fund, an investment fund created in 1991 by the U.S. Congress with support from the U.S. Agency for International Development.
