This April, we invite you once again to join the historical city tours in Sofia - a joint initiative with the Municipal Enterprise "Tourism" of the Sofia Municipality. Over two weekends, you will have the opportunity to explore places of memory through two walking historical tours, as well as experience a different Sofia on the Memory tram.

The walking tour "Freedom" will look at Sofia in 1989: the protest squares, "The City of Truth", the first free words, and the energy of hope after fear. The tour "Imposition of the Regime" will trace the remnants of a totalitarian world - the coup of September 9, the cult of Georgi Dimitrov, propaganda, and the repressive tool of the regime in the form of State Security. The historical Memory Tram follows the central axis of Sofia, where key locations associated with repression and the mechanisms of power from 1944 to 1989 are situated.

The route along tram lines No. 12 and No. 18 passes by the buildings of the former Directorate of the People's Militia and State Security, the Party House and the so-called triangle of power, the Court of Justice, and several other locations marked by political processes and control. You will also see places related to ideological censorship and control over freedom of movement, as well as the emerging counterculture of the 1980s - "The Pope," "The Blue," the first informal exhibitions and cafés.

Participation in the tours is free of charge, but spots are limited. 
Pre-registration is required.

Starting point: Fountain in front of the Presidential Palace

Walking tour "Imposition of the Regime"  
April 5 - 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM  
Starting point: Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"

Memory Tram tours
April 26 - 11:00 AM and 01:00 PM  
Starting point: tram stop "Lion Bridge Square" (towards Central Sofia Halls)
