Historical City Tours in June
June is approaching with the final historical city tours of the season in Sofia. Since November, nearly 700 people have already taken part, and now we invite you once again to return to the city's recent past – through the places, stories, and memories that continue to echo today.
The final four meetings of the season are coming up in June, organized jointly with Visit Sofia (Municipal Enterprise "Tourism" at Sofia Municipality).
The walking tour "The Establishment of the Regime" traces the remnants of a totalitarian world – the coup of September 9, the cult of Dimitrov, fear, and propaganda. Stories of missing people – and a memory that remains.
- Starting point: Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"
- Date and time: June 6, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
The walking tour "Freedom" returns to Sofia in 1989: the protest squares, the "City of Truth," and the first free words. The energy of hope following the fear.
- Starting point: Fountain in front of the Presidential Palace
- Date and time: June 20, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
The historical tram "Memory" traces Sofia's central axis and showcases key locations connected to the measures of control and power structures during the 1944–1989 period. The journey reveals the city as few know it. History outside the textbooks that must not be forgotten.
- Starting point: "Lavov Most Square" (Lion's Bridge) tram stop (in the direction of the Sofia Central Market Hall / Halite)
- Dates and times of the two tours: June 28 at 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM
Participation in the tours is free of charge, but spaces are limited.
Advance registration is mandatory.
